Tackling Health Inequalities

  1. We have recently employed a specialist health promotion person for learning disability who is going to work in four areas:
  • Sexual health
  • Obesity
  • Cancer screening
  • Oral health
  1. Until next April, we will ask our Learning Disability Health Liaison Nurses to check all our general practices to see how well annual health checks are being done.

  2. We will be employing two more Liaison Nurses who will help to make sure that more people with learning disabilities get regular screening for cancer and other diseases.

  3. Changing Places are loos and changing rooms fitted with hoists etc. Four facilities are open in Cornwall – Childrens Centre in Penzance, Ships and Castles in Falmouth, Wadebridge Camel Trail, Falcare (Independent Sector).

Two more will open this month, one in Penzance and one in the Priory Centre car park in St Austell. Radar Keys to enter the Changing Places buildings are available and links on the websites are being made available so that people know where they can get them from. More are planned for next year.

Cornwall have done a health equity audit. A copy is attached below
