Nearly half of the adults with learning disabilities known to their GP and their social services department received a health check in 20010/11.
Since 2009 GP practices in England can provide health checks for adults with learning disabilities as part of a Directed Enhanced Service scheme. Originally agreed for two years (2008-9 and 2009-10), this scheme was extended for at least another year (2010-11). This page contains information on how many adults with learning disabilities have received a health check in 2010/11 for each PCT in England.
72,782 people with learning disabilities were reported to have received a health check in 20010/11. This number has increased by 24% from 2009/10 and by 118% from 2008/9.
49% of the people reported by PCTs to have learning disabilities were reported to have received a health check. An 8% point increase from 2009/10 and a 26% point increase from 2008/9.
Over one in three PCTs (35%) reported a reduction in the percentage uptake of health checks between 2009/10 and 2010/11. Twenty one PCTs (13%) reported a reduction of 11 percentage points or more.
In contrast, thirty three PCTs reported an increase of more than 20 percentage points in the percentage uptake of health checks between 2009/10 and 2010/11.
Full details are available in the report and spreadsheet below. You can also see an interactive map showing results for each PCT.
