How many people receive social care?

Social care is help with ordinary daily living. It is organised, and sometimes provided, by local councils.

  • For some people it means having a special place to live where lots of care can be provided. This is called residential care.

  • For some people it means getting different sorts of support while living in an ordinary home with a carer or independently. This is called community based care.
